Developmental Writing Specialist
POSITION
The Developmental Writing Specialist works as a member of developmental education and competency-based learning team and serves as a member of the Development Task Force and Writing Task Force Committees. Responsible for collecting and analyzing data on passing and retention rates of developmental students, refining student learning outcomes for development writing courses, redesigning assessment tools to reflect college level composition, and developing curriculum and pedagogical innovations in the delivery of developmental writing instruction, including adapting and piloting best practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Must teach a minimum of two developmental courses per semester. Responsible for directing the Writing Center, hiring and training tutors, managing budget, developing writing resources for students and tutors, and collaborating with faculty to support writing instruction. Develops and conducts COMPASS preparation workshops and other writing workshops as requested. Develops lower level writing courses in the disciplines to support Writing Across the Curriculum. Assists the Title V Project Director in the generation of annual and interim performance reports to the U.S. Department of Education.
Position is grant funded through 2015 and contingent upon the availability of funds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s degree in English writing or teaching of English.
• Minimum of three years teaching in secondary or post-secondary level, including developmental writing.
• Two years designing curriculum and successful implementation of curriculum.
• Experience with placement testing instruments.
• Ability to work well with others.
SALARY RANGE: $40,000 - $46,800.
