Institutional Accreditation

Northern New Mexico College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), 230 South LaSalle Street, Suite 7-500, Chicago, IL 60604, www.hlcommission.org 800.621.7440.

Northern gained candidacy status in 1975, and full accreditation status in 1982. While expanding both its mission and its services, Northern undertook candidacy for accreditation with the HLC. The Technical-Vocational School had already been granted candidacy for accreditation (1977-1982). Accreditation by the HLC for Northern as a community college was officially declared on 20 March 1982; reaffirmation of accreditation was granted 1987, and again for ten years in 1994. Since then, Northern has obtained accreditation for programs from Engineering to Nursing.
In 2001, we joined the HLC's Academic Quality Improvement Program. In 2017, we joined HLC's Open Pathways. Northern is up for Reaffirmation of Accrediation in 2025.
In addition to regional accreditation, Northern’s educational offerings are accredited or approved by other agencies.

Northern's Associate Degree Nursing Program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA 30326, www.acenursing.org 404-975-5000.

The baccalaureate degree in nursing program at Northern New Mexico College is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://ccneaccreditation.org).

The College of Business Administration's bachelor's and associate degree programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), www.acbsp.org 913-339-9356

The College’s occupational courses are approved by the New Mexico State Department of Public Education; the Barbering, Cosmetology, and Nursing programs are approved by their respective state licensing boards.

State approval for benefits under Title 38 USC for veterans and other eligible persons has been granted by the New Mexico Veterans Service Commission.

The Department of Teacher Education’s Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education, and the Alternative Licensure Program: Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Special Education are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
